There’s always work to be done if you’re going to be about your Father’s business. Spiritual growth requires constant examination to see if you are still in the faith. What’s dead in you? …What’s alive in you? …What needs to die off from you?… What needs to come alive in you? Self evaluation is necessary and you have to be honest with yourself.
The address to the church of Sardis in Revelation 3:2-5 is today’s reading but reading it from verses 1-5 gives more depth. Although the words are to a church it is relevant for individuals considering, we are the church as well. The Lord knows our works! He knows what we’re capable of and the heart we have towards the work. There have been a few occasions where from the outside looking in you’d think I was alive, but I knew better. You always know when you’re asleep to His voice, His words and His ways. You know better than anyone when you’re running your own show with no thought to the Writer, Director and Producer of your life—Father God! The author says, “Wake Up and strengthen what remains and what is almost dead.” He’s talking about you-the call upon your life, the mission He gave you and the gift He empowered you with.
Wake up to Jesus and pursue after Him. Wake up from sin and lawlessness, repent and return to Him. Wake up from despair and oppressive thoughts and remember the joy of the Lord is your strength. Wake up and see the crowd you’ve surrounded yourself with is as unfruitful as you are—get out of the muck and mire and run to the God of your salvation. You need Him like never before. If you don’t wake up now, you’re going to not only miss great opportunities to be an effective witness for Him, but you just may miss Him altogether. He is still the Writer, Director and Producer of your life. Hear in the spirit the Lord saying…ACTION!
There is a great promise He gives in this passage to the one who conquers, He promises new garments, your name to never be blotted out of the book of life and He will confess your name before His Father and His angels. If you have an ear, a hunger, a thirst, a desire, and/or a wanting for Jesus-HEAR WHAT HE’S SAYING!
